Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora)
Location: Rosewood is mainly obtained from Brazil, and formerly also from French Guyana.
Extraction: Steam distilled from the heartwood chippings.
Colour and Odour: The essential oil is colourless and has a woody middle note and floral undertone. The odour is rich and subtle.
Description: A tree growing profusely up to 37.5 metres in tropical rainforests of the Amazon. The logs are cut and floated downriver in the flood season between April and July.
Background: The rose-scented wood is used to make furniture. It was used by the native Indians in the Amazon jungle for medicinal purposes.
Note: An alternative to rosewood oil is ho leaf oil, obtained from Cinnamomum camphora, a tree growing in China. Both oils share the same properties and can be used to treat the same problems.
Properties: Tonic, Stimulant, sedative, antidepressant, deodorant, antiseptic.
Uses: Nervous System-Good for helping clear headaches resulting from nausea, also good for steadying nerves during stressful times.
Skin- Promotes skin cellular regeneration. Valuable for wrinkles, ageing, sensitive or inflamed skin.
Emotion-Emotionally uplifting and enlivening, stabilising the nervous system. It has an overall calming effect without causing drowsiness.
Note:Our Rosewood has come from a supply chain that obtained it before Cites restricted sales of Rosewood in 2017. Please beware that once this stock has sold out and if the situation remains the same we will be unable to offer Rosewood. We will however offer Ho Wood as it contains high levels of Linalol so is considered as an alternative.
